seeing tIL tomorrow in London. I am tremendously excited. Have given ‘Widlife’ a good listen now. It’s peaky – yes- but when it hits its stride it has all the swagger and louche tomcat strut of the Stones in 73 – and at times the snarl of The Stooges circa ‘Fun House’. And yes – they wear their influences on their sleeve on this record – but what better set of heroes to have? People who embody rock and roll. And I kind of feel that JC still believes in the rock’n’roll myth – a powerful, guttural, primal, exciting, amddening, laugh out loud explosion of youth, anger, joy, frustration, elation, sex, whatever. I’m not too concerned by comments regarding derivative riffs and icks. It’s an album steeped in the 70s – and therefore quite different to the Aaron North material, which is more dense, multilayered and sonically complex. And that’s what you get with a genuinely innovative and unique guitarist – but this is not what Wildlifeis about, which is why I’m unconcerned by the lack of production and multitracking. Who cares anyway? Some will like it, some won’t. I just cannot wait to sweat and scream tomorrow night and escape my troubles; get in the moment and go crazy to the monster sound of THE ICARUS LINE YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
